Chemical Peel. 

What is it?

A chemical peel is a skin resurfacing cosmetic procedure. It helps to improve the appearance of the skin by removing the dead outer layers which reduces age spots, wrinkles and acne scars. 

The treatment also stimulates collagen production, which promotes a brighter more youthful appearance to the skin.

This includes a 30 minute treatment which requires a patch test at least 72 hours before appointment.

  1. What are the different types of chemical peels?
    Superficial Chemical Peel.
    - Superficial chemical peels are helpful in reducing blackheads, oiliness, unblocking pores and freshening dull sun-damaged skin. 
    - 3 - 6 superficial peels are often needed to treat acne scars and ageing skin.
    - After effects often include Mild facial redness and swelling, which usually fades and disappears within 48 hours.

    Medium Chemical Peel.
    - Medium depth chemical peels are effective in reducing the appearance of acne scars, age spots, pigmentation, superficial fine lines and wrinkles. 
    - More than 1 peel may be required for deeper scars or for more pronounced lines and wrinkles.
    - Medium peels often result in redness and swelling, which can take between 5 - 10 days to settle and disappear.

    Deep Chemical Peel. 
    - Deep chemical peels offer an intense exfoliation with results that last for several years. 
    - Deep peels are an aggressive skin resurfacing technique that improves the appearance of the skin. 
    - A solution is applied to the skin which causes the treated area to exfoliate and literally “peel off”. 
    - The deeper the peel, the more dramatic the results. However, the recovery periods is longer and can sometimes have adverse side effects.
     
  2. How do I care for my skin following the procedure?
    - Following a chemical peel its very important to avoid touching or picking at the skin as this can disrupt the natural skin healing cycle. 
    - Be as gentle as you can using sensitive products on your skin. 
    - Moisturise as normal.
    - Make sure to continue your daily SPF routine and Avoid Direct sunlight where possible.
    - Keep Hydrated.
     
  3. How long does it take to heal?
    - Medium peels take anywhere from 7 - 14 days following procedure to heal.
    - Deeper peels may take slightly longer. 
     
  4. Can anyone have a chemical peel?
    - It is not advisable for patients with Psoriasis, Eczema, Dermatitis, Rosacea, Broken or Sunburnt Skin to receive treatment. 
    - Each client is assessed on an individual basis during the 1-1 consultation prior to procedure to ensure treatment is appropriate. 
     
  5. How many chemical peels will I need?
    - This is very client specific and will depend on the type of skin you have and the areas of concern.
    - Clients often see improvement after 1 treatment.
